Introduction
Networking brought the power of information and showed ways drives economies with the power. Active Networks promise manifold increases in the information power. By making a network intelligent, one hopes to find newer unheard of computing applications that can revolutionize civilizations in many more than one ways. On the new network services there are so much research going on presently and people are trying to give most reliable and secure network system, Active networks are one of the major attempt in the field of network. The traditional IP internetworking architecture is based on connection less packet forwarding services. Active networks seek to reduce the rigidity of service definition by making the infrastructure programmable and hope to speed up the development and deployment of new network services.
One of the other aim of the Active Networks is that all users share the resources at all times and not have any of them starve. Data transaction is also an essential part of the computer systems and networking, for the transaction of data and compatibility between the systems we create a standard networking environment. Traditionally we use the Transmission Protocol and Internet Protocol, as a common compatible networking platform but it has a specific format of communication or transaction format and it has some drawbacks, as it’s lowest level is not reliable. This existed service is realized using a network of interconnected routers which forwards IP packets from their sources to their destination, each IP packet has a header. An approach called AN seeks to reduce the rigidity of the services definition by making the infrastructure programmable. In this approach a program a program carried at in every packet and can be executed at each active router on the way to its destination. In active nodes approach, where new functionality can be dynamically loaded in to the network nodes(routers) to define new network services. As I explained above it has a specific format of transaction and the packets can be lost, corrupted or duplicated. This happens only because of Internet’s congestion. So we need a new network service which gives us security, bandwidth etc.
Active Network offers new possibilities to face such problems. Active Networks provide programmers with the capability of analyzing and modifying messages flowing through the internal nodes of the network. It also permits applications to inject programs in to the nodes of local and more importantly, wide area networks.
Active network provides a new more effective way to implement usual protocols but also they are suitable to introduce some form of artificial intelligence in the network. In active networks, active packets carry not only data but also suitable code portions that will be executed at intermediate nodes as they walk through the net. Several problem arises from this approach because whenever we add new network services these require development are rather slow, standardization and deployment into the infrastructure. From this technology the network designers needs to provide the user with programmable network API, a virtual machine suitable for the programmer to inject their active packets into the networks.
From Active Network’s intelligent behavior, the distributed computation is made much easier. The main concern of active network is Security. IP packets contain only data and no programs to be executed inside the network. Most of the packet processing involves header processing. Due to predefined header format, the amount of CPU resources used for packet processing is bounded, and as each packet contains required header, so extracting the packet contents directly accesses the program. An active network provides the flexibility for developing network services.
Active Architecture thus represents a point in the design space defined by three dimensions, flexibility, performance and security, which we don’t get in IP protocol. Different applications are able to introduce into the network specifying the routines to be executed at network nodes that forward their messages. The performance of modern distributed computing is heavily dependent upon the network services used to move information among machines.
But beside these to introduce new network services or process of changing protocol is both lengthy Network innovation is allowed and expensive process, a new technology might take over a decade to travel from one prototype stage to large-scale deployment.
